Bison Sculpture at the Wellfield Botanic Gardens

The Wellfield Botanic Gardens installed its newest sculpture; a larger than life Bison.

We were asked to photograph the newest addition to the sculptures at the Wellfield Botanic Gardens in November and we will again in the Summer when the gardens are in full bloom.

On Thursday August 22, 2019 a large crane lowered the roughly seven feet tall and near 1,500 pounds bronze sculpture onto the center island in the middle of the main pond.

The sculpture was constructed by Ken Bjorge of Bigfork, Montana.  Mr. Bjorge also created the other two animal sculptures in the gardens; one of a mama bear with her cubs, and another of an elk.  The Bison bronze sculpture is hollow, but roughly one and a half inches thick and about 125 percent scale so it is a little larger than life.

The newest sculpture was donated as a gift from Doug Grant, former president of Lake City Bank, who is a long-time supporter of the gardens. The sculpture is in memory of his wife, Barbara, who was a Colorado Buffaloes fan.
