A Tribute to Lance

Several years ago, Dawn and I had the pleasure of not only photograph the loving couple of Heidi and Brandon but also of their dear horse Lance.  The love that both Heidi and Brandon showed each other was so evident in the way that they looked at each other.  What was also evident was the love that they had for their horse Lance.  I think, looking at how Lance looked back at them, that he shared that love for them also.

Time passes for us all, and so too does it pass for horses, if but a little more quickly.  As with the passage of time for us all, with it sometimes comes illness.  You see, as the love grew stronger between all three of them, poor Lance grew sicker as time went on.  He is in his final days now, and the reality of true love must be shown in a way that no one ever wants it to.  A decision must be made, and it is one that is surely the hardest decision that one person can made for another living creature;  one to end the suffering and difficulty in continuing to live.  Our hearts go out to Heidi and Brandon and especially for Lance.
