Church Community Services' Amazing Elkhart Race 2014

Looking for a way to have fun, explore Elkhart, and raise money for Church Community Services all at the same time? Look no further and join us for the Amazing Elkhart Race 2014.
When: Saturday, April 26, 2014, beginning at 10 AM.
What: 10+ challenges that require teams to race around Elkhart.
Where: Start -- Civic Plaza, downtown Elkhart / End -- CCS, 907 Oakland Ave., Elkhart
Who: Teams of 4 adventure-seeking people, 18+ years old, able to walk/run up to 5 miles in the course of the race.
Why: Raise funds for CCS and its amazing programs. Plus, it'll be a blast! And did we mention, you could earn some amazing prizes!
1st Prize - $1000
2nd Prize - $800
3rd Prize - “Dinner under the chandelier” @ Palais Royale, 5 course meal w/ personal butler.

The day started about 8:00 am with the race teams showing up and registering, they did not get their race course locations just yet, they got those all at the same time later in the morning. After registering all the teams got a team shot, and some had more fun with it than others. ;-)
I think the racers themselves had a good time as well. We might have instigated a little of it, but it is really all "them!"

After the teams signed in they received their race instructions and the locations (addresses) of where they had to go to compete. They quickly huddled around and developed a strategy on what locations to go to and in what order.

...But they could not take off just yet, the race designers threw in a curve ball at the start of the race, all the teams had to do one event at the starting line before they could leave.

And the most important part of this event is...
The CatchEveryone had their own style of catching the water balloon.
After every team completed their needed number of catches they then could run to their cars and take to the race course.

One of the race locations was:
Ideal Beach during the Elkhart Amazing Race 2014All the teams were greeted by a happy race official.
At this location the races had to complete the following tasks: Volley a volley ball, Get a Ringer in horseshoes, complete one hole of miniature golf and build a sand castle. They knew to do all these by reading the instructions that they had to find at the course.

After finding and reading, and in some cases saving them to their cell phones, they were off to the individual events:
Now off to the quilt counting event, where they had to go into the Elkhart Center and count the quilts inside.

Next the ring toss catch and Hulla-Hoop event.
From there, they racers went on to the park to do some tree planting and obstacle course work.

This race can make you go mad!
Even though it was a great day for doing events outside, the next events were inside; they had to complete a puzzle and build a castle out of red Solo cups.

The next location had our racers deboning chickens and cooking them up, looking at holograms to find all the images within them, and programming robots.
At various locations the race committee had snacks available for the racers.

We all had a good time at the Amazing Elkhart Race, and knowing that all the money went to a good cause made it that much more enjoyable!
