I listen to a lot of podcasts, or as Leo Laporte (one of the podcasts I listen to) would say: “Net Casts.” Most of them fall into one of three categories:
1. Computer Related
2. Science
3. Photography
I am very appreciative of my dear wife Dawn when she gave me my iPod as a present. I think it is my most used gadget. Thank you Snugums, I love you. Although, I think sometimes she feels that she has lost me to my podcasts, as she is fond of saying: “Oh no, you have those things in your ears again!” referring to the earbuds in my ears.
One of my favorite podcasts/netcasts to listen to is called TWIP--This Week In Photo. TWIP has several co-hosts and they are all very interesting to listen to. They also occasionally have some guest-hosts as well. The topic of conversation is always photography related, but there is enough fringe subject mater to keep it all real.
The main host of TWIP is Frederick Van Johnson who is a professional photographer. Thanks to TWIP, I looked up, er I mean Binged, Frederick on the web and found his website www.frederickvan.com where he has his Blog, photography, and articles, I also learned a little bit more about him: In addition to being the host of ”This Week in Photography”, one of the world’s most popular photography-related podcasts, he regularly lectures and conducts training on topics ranging from marketing, business and photographic technique.
Frederick began his career as a Combat Photojournalist in the United States Air Force, where he served for 8 years and was decorated many times for his photography in the field. Frederick’s unit was among the first in the military to receive digital SLR technology, and put it into daily action.
Frederick was awarded the prestigious United States Air Force Commendation medal for his key role in facilitating his unit’s transition from film-based photography to digital.
What I wanted to key in on in this blog entry was his learning series called: “Shut Up And Shoot.” It's a 10-part "eClass" designed to cover the basics of photography, and help get you inspired to learn your gear, try new things, and above all... SHOOT! They are short entries with accompanying audio that teaches you a little something about photography.
The series is now complete, and all episodes are available for download, or you can listen to them directly from the blog on your computer, iPhone, iPad, etc.
