This is the book that we photographed the cover for. Dawn did the model wrangling, Rob Miller and I did the lighting and cover layout together, Kristine Kowalski was our model and I was the photographer.
The local author, F.L. Jacob, wrote a "50 Shades of Gray" type of book, and the pre-release reviews and comments are just stellar! We can’t wait to read it ourselves (yes we had to wait just like everyone else).
So very cool to see our work on a book cover! It was such an amazing journey from start to finish. What we thought would be a small head shot of the author for the inside jacket of a book turned out to be the actual cover for the book. We started the project by working on the concept for the shot, it had to match the theme of the book. After reading the synopsis of the book, provided by the author, and getting some of the personal, behind the scenes, information we arrived at a couple of concepts for the shot. We wanted a black high heel shoe and a ballerina slipper along with long beautiful legs to be a central theme of the shot.
Then we had to find just the right female model for the image that we wanted to create. Not only did the model have to have great legs, she also had to have a great set of glutes (not to sound too technical). After the shoes and legs, a black, lacy panty would play the next integral part of the image. Now, searching for a model with all of those attributes was not as easy as you would think. First of all Dawn, our model wrangler, took precedence over Rob and I in the search, apparently she did not want us to get too “distracted” by our search. LOL But it was difficult as most of the models that showed interest in the project had tattoos, and we needed a clean canvas to work with. However, narrowing down all the subject to our short list by eliminating those models, actually helped us arrive at our final choice. We had worked with Kristein before, and had even done some bikini sessions with her, but we had not worked with her in a while so we were not sure if she was available. To our luck when we called, she was available and she was in training for a big bikini context so she was working out night and day so her legs were in great shape.
Great, we had our talent, now we had to find the location and the wardrobe. We have a few connections with the hospitality industry so we were able to arrange a room to shoot in, in fact it turned out to be the bridal suite and worked out just perfect for our photo session.
The wardrobe was the next thing to arrange. At first Kristine was going to supply all her own garments, but when the client requested to be able to select the garments herself, how could we refuse, they would be the ultimate judge of what looked best. When working for a client, the client always has the last say, so, sometimes it is best to give them the first say and in this case it worked out great for all involved.
Now that we had the right model, the right location and the right wardrobe, next we actually had to put it all together and create the image! We all met at the bridal suite, and went to work creating the perfect image. Everyone pitched in and did their job and it all came together into the final image that became the cover of the book: Have I told You.
Now we can't wait to get our copy signed at the author's upcoming release party!
It feels so good to see that our work on a National scale!
We wanted to give thanks and credit to all involved in creating the Have I Told You book cover, without their input and help this project could never have ended...happily ever after. ;-)
